In the wake of the Covid19 crisis, working from home was an option to keep people employed, and though things are getting back to somewhat semi-normal, working from home has become the new normal in America.
For those of you who have been doing it for years now before it became the happening thing, it’s not that big of a deal, but for the newbies in the bunch, it can be downright stressful. In fact, studies show that staying at home to work is more stressful than leaving to go to a nine to five jobs every day. Whatever the reason for it being stressful is, there are steps you can take to beat the stress.
Set Boundaries
The great news about being able to work from the comfort of your own home is that you aren’t roped into a 9-to-5 schedule. The bad news is that friends, family, and even neighbors think that not going into the office frees you up for phone calls, visits, and running errands for them because after all, you can work any time of the day or night. Even if the office is only in the next room, set firm boundaries about what is allowed when you are at work. In the end, setting boundaries will save you a lot of conflicts and hurt feelings when you snap and can’t take anymore.
Take Breaks to De-stress
If you hit a mental block, and you will, take a break from work to de-stress and unwind. Whether it’s folding a load of laundry, reading a chapter in a book, or taking a quick wall while you take a couple of hits from one of your many wax pens, do whatever it is that helps you de-stress and makes you ready to tackle the rest of your workload.
While you might enjoy vaping, you need to make sure that you know the rules and regulations on vaping in whichever state you live in. Every state is different, and you don’t want to get caught vaping somewhere you’re not supposed to be.
Claim Your Own Territory
While it may be tempting, working from the couch is probably not the best idea when you’re working from home. You need a designated space to work in, and that equipment and space should only be used for work. An office is best, but an area away from others that is only yours can work if you need it too. However, you need to get your own office away from the rest of the house when possible.
Get Out of the House when Needed
Yes, working from home is great. You work when you want, you can work in sweats and you don’t have to deal with a ton of people. However, there’s such a thing as too much of a good thing, remember? Schedule some time to get out of the house, even if it’s just to meet friends for lunch once a week. It’s easy to get used to staying in the house, and soon you’ll find yourself dreading even a trip to the mailbox. Get yourself out more and your stress levels will thank you for it. Besides, if you find that it’s noon and you haven’t even bothered to brush your hair yet, you might have a problem.
These are just a few of the best ways to deal with work-at-home stress levels. While working from home is great, if you’re productive, it can be stressful. Following these tips will help you control stress and be productive as well.
